Warhawks win three-game series at UALR

The University of Arkansas-Little Rock defeated ULM 12-2 Sunday afternoon in seven innings at Gary Hogan Field, managing to salvage one game in the series after Warhawks won the opening two Sun Belt Conference contests.

The Trojans scored three runs in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings and limited the Warhawks to a season-low four hits.

The Trojans took advantage of early ULM errors taking a 3-1 lead after the opening two innings of play. Perry Smith gave the Warhawks a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning scoring Matt Collins, but UALR answered with three in the bottom of the frame after ULM (18-11, 8-7 Sun Belt) committed a pair of errors.

Tyson Parks and Landis Wilson led off the inning with back-to-back doubles. Josh Marazzito then reached on the first error of the inning allowing Wilson to score the second run of the frame. Anthony Gower extended the lead to 3-1 with a single to left.

Anthony Pryor (1-3) went 6.1 innings in the win for the Trojans allowing just four hits and two runs – one earned. He walked six Warhawk batters and threw three wild pitches.

UALR (8-20, 4-11) added three more in the fifth on a RBI single by Matt Apfel and a two-run homer by Tim Emmons which chased ULM starter Jordy Poche. The Trojans extended their lead out to 9-1 in the sixth on a two-run double by Nate Brown and a bases loaded walk by Landis Wilson.

Collins drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the seventh inning for ULM's second run of the game; however, the Warhawks left the bases loaded for the second time of the game and were not able to draw any closer.

The Trojans' three runs in the seventh inning ended the game due to the Sun Belt Conference Sunday curfew rule.

Poche (1-2) suffered the loss allowing six runs — five earned — on six hits over 4.1 innings of work.
