Local tennis teams take home gold

As tennis becomes more and more popular among teens in Ouachita Parish, it is a growing trend that has also helped tennis teams at area schools grow and flourish.

The team from St. Frederick High School placed first in the recent Bolton Cup Tournament.

Other area schools also represented the area very well in the tournament.

Neville finished in second place, Ouachita Christian School took home third place, and West Ouachita placed fourth in the tournament.

It was the highest finish by a West Ouachita squad in the history of the school's tennis program.

OCS head coach Jeremy Shackleford said, "We were real proud of the way our players performed. We had multiple kids play real well and make either the semi-finals or finals in the brackets."

St. Frederick singles star Garrett Whipple took home the championship in singles competition after defeating Kyle Mayfield of OCS in the semi-finals which propelled him toward the gold.

The doubles team of Jason Simon and Nathan Ryan from St. Frederick took home the top honors in doubles competition after beating Wally Nguyen and Neel Dahliwal from OCS.

The Neville Tigers won the girl's doubles bracket as Anna Raymond and Allie Watson breezed through all comers.
