River Oaks travels after successful week at home

The River Oaks Mustangs continue to rip through their district 2-2A baseball schedule in the Mississippi Private School Association.

On Sunday, the team had to rebound from a 12-9 loss to Glenbrook, a game in which sophomore Vincent Moore went 5-for-5 at the plate for River Oaks (8-6, 3-4).

River Oaks pulled off the comeback as they pounced on Huntington early and often in a 11-1 win that put the mercy rule into effect after just five innings of play.

River Oaks scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the contest.

Coley Rahn (1-0) picked up his first win in his only start so far this season after spending the early part of the season as the top middle-relief pitcher at River Oaks.

Rahn allowed just two hits during the game as River Oaks displayed sharp offense and defense against Huntington.

Vincent Moore, Cody Trichell and Paul McCarter each recorded doubles for the Mustangs and Moore stole base five times without ever being thrown out during the game.

On Friday, River Oaks ripped past Trinity Episcopal in a double-header sweep. Gabe Bower (4-3) got the win the first game as the Mustangs put up runs early and hung on for a 7-2 win over the Saints.

Down 6-4 in the fifth inning of the second game, River Oaks took the lead after a rain delay and Cody Trichell got the save with a perfect effort in the seventh inning.

Thursday, River Oaks will travel to Riverdale and then they will meet Huntington on Friday night in non-district action for the Mustangs. District play resumes next week.
