The Sterlington Panthers, ranked No. 2 in Class 2A this week, continue to tear through the competition of district 2-2A.

Sterlington scored over 20 runs for the third time last week in a 25-1 win over Lake Providence.

The Panthers have gotten hot swings from Cole Bagby and Stephen Gandy who lead the team in RBI and extra base hits so far this season.

Two-sport athlete Logan Dobson, along with several other players who double as football stars at Sterlington, is another batter getting timely hits for the Panthers.

Things could not be going much better for an offense averaging over 20 runs per game in district play so far this year.

"We are still working on fundamental things," Sterlington coach David Parks said. "We are getting better in some areas and still working hard in others."

Some of the biggest improvements since the beginning of the season include the pitching staff and the defense, both of which have really come together for the Panthers.

Sterlington has almost eliminated costly fielding errors and has seen solid production from their starting pitchers.

Thursday the Panthers host Ferriday in a district contest that could really set the Panthers apart from the crowd in district 2-2A.

St. Frederick will then travel to Sterlington in an interesting non-district match-up Saturday at 2 p.m. which is considered one of the top area games this weekend.
