Area baseball teams hit state poll

Area baseball teams continue to represent the parish well on the baseball field. The latest coach's polls show that the successes of area teams are not going unnoticed throughout the state of Louisiana.

Neville is the team with the highest classification to enter the polls this year as they are now ranked No.10 in the Class 4A poll. West Monroe has received some votes in the Class 5A poll but has not been able to crack the top 10 lately.

Sterlington continues to rip through the competition in Class 2A and will look to leap over Evangel this week for the top ranking in that classification.

The biggest power trip in baseball here in Ouachita Parish may lie in Class 1A where OCS and St. Fred are currently ranked No. 2 and No.3, respectively this week. The two teams will do battle on Thursday night at St. Fred in one of the marquee Class 1A games in all of Louisiana this week.

Claiborne Christian also has been making some noise over in Class C. The Crusaders are ranked fourth in this week's state polls.

1. Northshore 2. Barbe 3. Dutchtown 4. Denham Springs 5. Airline 6. St. Paul 7. St. Amant 8. Slidell 9. Byrd 10. Lafayette. Others receiving votes: Hahnville, Brother Martin, St. Thomas More, Sulphur, West Monroe, Acadiana, and Central.

2009 Class 4A - Top 10 Poll

1. Sam Houston 2. Zachary 3. Benton 4. Morgan City 5. Belle Chasse 6. Live Oak 7. Tioga 8. Shaw 9. Holy Cross 10. Neville. Others receiving votes: Eunice, Vandebilt Catholic, Salmen, Haughton, West Ouachita, St. Michael, Teurlings Catholic, and DeRidder.

2009 Class 2A - Top 10 Poll

1. Evangel 2. Sterlington 3. St. Thomas Aquinas 4. John Curtis 5. University 6. Livonia 7. Lakeside 8. DeQuincy 9. Loyola 10. Pope John Paul

Others receiving votes: Springfield, Episcopal, Dunham, St. John, Calvary Baptist, Jonesboro-Hodge, Sacred Heart, Fisher, and Mamou.
