The Northeast La. Genealogical & Historical Society met on Sunday, March 8, in the Louis Locke room of the main branch of the public library.

James Free presided. He welcomed guests and made announcements. Margie Brown read the minutes of the last meeting. The meeting was then turned over to Lois Ferguson, program chairperson.

Ferguson reported that the April meeting would be on Sunday, April 5. The program will be "What is it Worth" with Trenton Street Antiques. She also reminded attendees of the group's private tour of Cooley House on South Grand, with refreshments at Masur Museum for the May 10 meeting.

Ferguson also discussed upcoming events in the area and then introduced the guest speaker George Weaks.

Weaks presented history of his family, as related to the Monroe area. He said his ancestors came to the Monroe area in the 1830s. They married into some prominent families in the area. The Weaks family was in business in several of the old buildings that Weaks showed pictures of. He had many photos that came from pictorial books published about the early downtown area, plus some of his own. He had the pictorial books on display and he showed many of the pictures and expounded on the history of some of them.
