Ouachita readies for Natchitoches Central

The Ouachita Lions will begin district 2-5A competition this weekend as they travel to Natchitoches Central for a junior varsity and varsity contest on Saturday afternoon.

The junior varsity Lions will square off with Natchitoches Central at noon on Saturday. The Lions will then meet Natchitoches Central in a varsity contest at about 2 p.m.

"We know Natchitoches Central will be much improved," Ouachita head coach Brian Carter said. "They have seven starters coming back and we expect a good game."

Natchitoches Central is especially going to be deep on the mound where they return nearly every varsity pitcher from a year ago.

This district game comes on the heels of the Chevron tournament at Ouachita High School last weekend.

Ouachita (7-11) dropped their final game on Sunday to the Neville Tigers by a score of 12-2.

Andy Roberts and Jason Johnson each had a pair of hits to lead Ouachita. Neville came out on fire to begin the game and take over in a hurry.

Neville exploded for eight runs in the top of the first inning. Freshman Jarrod Douglas started for the Lions and took the loss.

John Parker took to the mound and picked up the win for Neville (7-8-1). Ouachita made some contact, but could not contain the Tigers offense.

"We are having trouble competing at the plate right now," Carter said. "We are making too many mental errors out there. We have to do a better job of situational hitting to get better."

Ouachita will also continue to work on their fielding and defensive presence on the field. Ouachita coaches are attempting to cut down on errors and mental mistakes as the team gets into their all important district schedule beginning Saturday.
