Story Archives: River Oaks to host Trinity this Friday

River Oaks to host Trinity this Friday
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The River Oaks Mustangs will host Trinity Episcopal in a double-header beginning at 4 p.m. Friday in Monroe.

The Mustangs lost Tuesday at Trinity 10-4 in the first of the three-game series. Trinity jumped out to a big lead and River Oaks made some defensive adjustments, including a switch on the mound to hold the Saints back at the plate.

Casey Rohn pitched three strong relief innings for the Mustangs as Trinity had already built too much of a lead for River Oaks to overcome.

John Rockett and D.J. Bedenbender each went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored runs for the Mustangs.

Cody Trichell and Haven Johnston added doubles for River Oaks.

River Oaks will try to hit the practice field as much as they can this week with rain making field conditions wet and soggy.

"We need to work on our base running," River Oaks head coach Michael Johnston said. "We will also be working hard on getting consistent pitching out on the mound for us."

River Oaks still has plenty of fight left to give in a district 3-2A race that is just heating up. Trinity is one of the top Mississippi Private School Association squads again this year and the Saints will be looking for the sweep.

Getting runners into scoring position is a point the Mustangs will stress this weekend as they try to get their defense some more run support to ease tension of both the infield and the pitching staff.
