Neville hosts Carroll in three-game series

The Neville Tigers will host a three-game series against the Carroll Bulldogs beginning Thursday night as the two teams begin district 2-4A play.

Neville is coming off a 2-2 performance in the Chevron Classic at Ouachita this weekend.

Neville dropped games to Ruston and West Monroe before pounding Ouachita on Sunday afternoon by a score of 12-2.

"We are making some bad errors in the field," Neville head coach Tim O'Neal said. "We are up and down. We have been getting some good throwing from our pitchers."

Andrew Parker (5-1) has come on really strong for the Tigers as of late. Parker has not lost since early in the year and continues to blow through each team put in his path.

Neville is currently led at the plate by Matt Gale and his .444 batting average. Drew Narmor is second on the team in hits with a .373 average while Ben Sartar is hitting .362 so far this season.

"We need to work on getting better on defense," O'Neal said. "We are up and down but we hit the ball well against Ouachita and not against West Monroe."

Neville will again be ranked in the state's elite programs in Class 4A this week. Neville sits at No.10 in latest state polls released on Wednesday.

The Tigers are trying to stay on the path toward a district championship again this season. That journey begins with three games against parish rival Carroll this weekend.

West Ouachita and Neville are again considered the teams to beat as the district schedule rolls around.

Coaches do not like the inconsistency of the Tigers, but there is no arguing that their pitching staff has recently held some really good teams down in critical situations in the non-district portion of the schedule.

The series with Carroll will begin Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Neville field. All games will be played at Neville, including the double-header scheduled for Saturday at noon.
