Fleming comments on Fletcher's health

U.S. Rep. John Fleming issued the following statement Wednesday concerning the health of his chief of staff, Lee Fletcher.

"Lee Fletcher had successful surgery two weeks ago and is expected to continue doing physical rehabilitation for another two weeks," said Fleming, R-Minden. "He will then be going to M.D. Anderson in Houston for radiation treatment."

"Doctors expect him to make a full recovery and I look forward to having him back in Washington in his role as chief of staff," Fleming said.

Fletcher, of Monroe, has served as Fleming's chief of staff since Fleming took office in January as congressman for the 4th District of Louisiana in the U.S. House of Representatives. Fleming succeeded Jim McCrery, who represented the 4th District from 1989-2009.

Fletcher managed Fleming's campaign last fall in the 4th District congressional race, which he won by a narrow margin over former Caddo Parish District Attorney Paul Carmouche.

Fletcher also owns The Fletcher Group, a successful advertising/public relations firm in Monroe. He owns as well the radio station, Fox 92.7 FM, and a Web site hosting and development company, Web Completors.

All three companies are operating under a management team Fletcher put in place prior to taking the job as Fleming's chief of staff.

Fletcher ran for the 5th District congressional seat in 2002. He lost the race by less than 1,000 votes to Congressman Rodney Alexander.

Prior to running for Congress, Fletcher served as U.S. Rep. John Cooksey's chief of staff. Cooksey, a Republican like Fletcher, represented the 5th District from 1997-2003.
