ULM offers series on improving finances

The Financial Management Association will offer part two of a three-part series about how individuals might improve their financial situation during tough economic times.

Alan Stephenson, investment advisor, financial radio show host and co-owner of Stephenson and Greene in Monroe will speak at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 26, at the Bayou Village Conference Center. The center is connected to the Bayou Village Dormitory at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

This series is open to ULM students, faculty and staff, but limited seating is also available for the general public, who are invited to attend even if they missed the first part of the series.

Stephenson said his goal is to equip participants with the knowledge about what kinds of questions to ask for their individual financial circumstances.

"I do not subscribe to a 'one size fits all' philosophy when it comes to personal finances," said Stephenson. "This (financial planning) isn't a sweater."

Stephenson will recap his February talk and include more discussion about the four types of financial tools available to individuals concerned about their financial future – investments, tax shelters, insurance and estate planning. He will educate the audience on how to use those tools to build their future.

The financial management offers details on budgeting, insurance, retirement planning and asset transfer techniques. In addition to these topics, a variety of investment vehicles are explained.

Seating for this event is limited; those interested should contact mparker@ulm.edu to confirm their reservation to attend.
