ULM Interfraternity Council receives recognition The University of Louisiana at Monroe's Interfraternity Council recently received two awards for excellence and a registration scholarship at the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference's Leadership Academy, held in Atlanta, Ga.
The ULM IFC was the only Louisiana school to receive outstanding recognition at the conference, the annual regional leadership meeting for council officers. It was recognized for Excellence in Educational Programming and Overall Fraternal Excellence.
Nathan Smith, IFC president and a risk management and insurance junior from Shreveport, also won a registration scholarship from the Order of Omega National Greek Honor Society.
"The Fraternal Excellence Award is the highest honor awarded by the SEIFC. The IFC at ULM has shown a commitment to fraternal values, high standards and educational and social programming," said Gentry McCreary, assistant executive director of SEIFC. "The SEIFC Executive Board proudly congratulates them on this outstanding achievement."
The Excellence in Educational Programming Award was presented to the Interfraternity Council as their educational programs have displayed innovation and creativity for both the fraternity system and surrounding community. The Fraternal Excellence Award is given to those IFCs who have excelled by 85 percent or more in 11 categories, which include: Finance, Risk Management, Recruitment, and various other areas of chapter management and structure.
Keith Hembree, coordinator of Greek Life at ULM, stated about the IFC's success at SEIFC: "It's encouraging to see how well our fraternity system is doing at ULM and in the state of Louisiana. It is great to work with these young men every day and to finally see all of their hard work and dedication to ULM and to the Monroe area paying off.
"ULM's fraternity community prides itself on the promotion of brotherhood, leadership, academics, and service to others, as exemplified in the awards received at this year's SEIFC Leadership Academy. The ULM Office of Greek Life prides itself for its outstanding reputation in the Monroe community as well as in the state of Louisiana."
