Local players selected for soccer all-state team
OCS coach garners top honor
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association released the soccer all-state teams this week and the parish is well represented by several local players.
On the Division II all-state squad, Forward Allee Crew of Neville High School was selected after her team's successful 2009 campaign.
Crew was the lone senior on the squad and led her team to another district championship in 2009.
Second in the district was West Ouachita and junior midfielder Lauren Africa represents the area on the second team all-state squad in Division II.
The Lady Chiefs are one of the exciting young programs that are up and coming in the Division II rankings.
Ouachita Christian School placed two members on the Division III all-state teams. Midfielder Gracie Thaxton was selected to the first team all-state.
Teammate Abby Chowns, a forward, was selected to the second-team all-state squad for Division III soccer by the LHSAA.
OCS won another district championship to go along with a good playoff run.
Head coach Bruce Deaton took home coach of the year honors for his work with the Lady Eagles this season.
The Lady Eagles will be another dangerous team again next season with a majority of the squad returning.
West Monroe also made it to the second round of the LHSAA playoffs this season in a movement that has seen popularity and involvement with soccer rise in Ouachita Parish in recent years. |
