Carroll season ends
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Carroll Bulldogs are this season's district champions in district 2-4A and were expected to make a push for the Top 28 tournament even with a young team that some say overachieved.

However, that deep playoff run didn't come about as Carroll (15-15) ended their season with a first-round playoff loss at Edna Karr High School on Friday night.

Xavier Lee scored 14 points to lead the Bulldogs who were in disarray offensively in the second half.

In the opening half of play, Carroll went toe to toe with Karr (23-12) and the teams were tied at the end of both the first and second quarters.

"We had our chances," Carroll head coach Jesse Burnett said. "We just did not convert on offense enough. On the road you have to play smart and score the ball."

With the score 25-25 starting the third quarter, Karr began to take advantage of Carroll, missing some key shots and making a run that the Bulldogs could not recover from.

Carroll will be busy preparing for next season, in which every player except for Lee will return.

"The future is bright for us at Carroll," Burnett said. "We have a lot of great players coming back and need to keep working hard."

Carroll will likely be the favorite to win the district again next season. The Bulldogs took the crown this year with only one senior in tow.

Josh Tarver and Will Mariland are key contributors that are expected to make even more strides for the Bulldogs next fall.

Others got valuable game experience that can only help Carroll make a statement again a year from now.
