Rams look to avenge playoff loss in Friday game against Wildcats

The Richwood Rams will be looking for playoff revenge when they host their biggest rivals, the Wossman Wildcats, in the quarterfinal round of the Class 3A playoffs on Friday.

Richwood lost the Class 3A title game to Wossman in Lafayette a year ago and now has the home court advantage in a game that determines which team will return to Lafayette for the Top 28 tournament.

Richwood dominated Marksville on Tuesday night to reach the quarterfinals. The Rams went on the road and embarrassed their opponents with a 79-57 win.

Keldric Martin, son of head coach Terry Martin, led the Rams with 29 points in the victory. Marcies Davis added 17 points for Richwood.

The game was close in the first quarter as neither team gave any ground defensively early on.

Richwood began to press Marksville out of the gym that resulted in easy lay-ups on the offensive end for the Rams.

Richwood (21-11) let their defense lead to offensive production again in the second half as they cruised into the third round for the third-consecutive season.

Richwood defeated Wossman 70-61 in overtime back on Jan. 23 in their first meeting. The two teams met a second time in district play at Richwood — a game in which the Wildcats escaped with a big win, 65-61.

Richwood may be at a size disadvantage inside and will look to lock down their defense on Wossman (21-7) leading rebounder Jonathan Ross, who was big in the win at Richwood last time these two locked up.
