Strauss presents gospel 'Smoke on the Mountain' The Strauss Theatre Center is reaching out to the community, specifically the churches, and inviting entire congregations to join them for a celebration of gospel music, according to general manager Bob Lewis.
"Smoke on the Mountain" is being presented during the month of March. The musical takes place in a rural Baptist Church in 1938 where the Sanders Family is holding a Saturday Night Sing. This family of singers and evangelists perform over 30 gospel songs including "I'll Fly Away", "Let Your Bible Be Your Roadmap" and "Church In The Wildwood."
Vera and Burl head up the fictional family, along with Bible School twins Dennis and Denise, wayward uncle Stanley, widowed Aunt Clare, and sister June who signs instead of sings. The cast plays all their own instruments in an added bonus of this unique production. This show appeals to all ages and all faiths and is also filled with testimonials.
Churches are welcome to bring a group to the performance or the Strauss can set up a special show, even going to a church to perform in its sanctuary.
The cast features Gayle and Scott Frick, Caleb and Charity Wilkins, Dwight and Janet Housley, Mickey Cannon, Hailey Hatcher, Hunt Neely, Amy Wilson and Cathy Burgess.
