Children's Coalition hosts workshop March 11 The Children's Coalition for Northeast Louisiana, in partnership with Community Trust Bank will present "The Adolescent Brain" workshop on Wednesday, March 11, at the Monroe Civic Center.
The Children's Coalition annual meeting will be from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., with lunch provided. The workshop will run from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Keynote speaker is Karen Williams, MSSW. Williams is a private practice education consultant in Dallas, Texas. Her focus is on brain development and the impact of substances and traumatic stress on development and behavior.
The workshop will include
• An overview of human brain development with scans from ages 5-20.
• Insights into the opportunities and challenges of the adolescent brain.
• Discussions of child traumatic stress and the effects on mental health and behavior.
• Information about the impact of alcohol and other drugs in the adolescent brain.
The workshop is free, but reservations are required for attendance.
