Richwood on road to championship The Richwood Rams begin their quest to return to the Class 3A state championship game Friday in the playoffs.
The Rams are going to be at home as the No.5 seed in this season's playoff. Richwood will host Bunkie High School Friday night at 7 p.m.
Richwood beat Jonesboro-Hodge by a score of 55-53 in their final regular season game and finished in second-place in district 1-3A behind rival Wossman. Wossman beat Richwood for the Class 3A state championship at the Cajun Dome last year.
Marcies Davis scored 16 points in the victory. Richwood also got double-figures again from senior Rydell Harris, a Grambling State commitment.
Richwood may not have the size and experience of the team last season, but coaches are confident they will field a playoff contender that has really come on strong after a tough showing in a very good district 1-3A.
A win at Wossman on Jan. 23 in overtime was the defining win for the program this year. Richwood has improved on both ends of the floor since a 69-51 loss to Ouachita to begin the season.
On the girl's side, Richwood saw their season end with a 82-35 loss at Ursuline. Richwood was hampered by turnover woes that killed any chance of a threat to Class 3A's No.2 seed.
Richwood ends their season with a 13-19 record and third-place in district 1-3A. As with the Rams, the Lady Rams will return a strong nucleus of talent to the court in the fall of this year. |
