Parish schools honor students of the year
More than 30 Ouachita Parish students were honored ranking at the top of their classes in the annual student of the year competition.
Ouachita Parish Schools officials, parents and teachers gathered late last week at the West Monroe Convention Center to recognize local students who were selected as students of the year.
Caleb Armstrong of Swartz Elementary School was selected as the overall elementary student of the year.
Hamilton Stephens Winters of West Ridge Middle School was selected as the overall middle school student of the year.
Erin Hall of Ouachita Parish High School was selected as the overall high school student of the year.
Superintendent Dr. Bob Webber said the Ouachita Parish school system has enjoyed success because of its outstanding students and teachers.
"We hear all the time about the bad things that young people do in school and in communities, but believe me, the children who go to our schools are prepared, they are well-behaved and they work very, very hard," Webber said.
