LSU Duo Named LSWA Players Of The Week

LSU's Tasmin Mitchell and Allison Hightower captured the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honors announced on Tuesday.
Mitchell helped LSU to two Southeastern Conference wins, one at home and one on the road, as LSU ran its record to 14-3 and 2-1 in the Southeastern Conference.
The junior from Denham Springs had a career-high 30 points and his fourth double-double of the season in an 85-68 win over South Carolina in the Tigers' opening game of the week.
Mitchell hit 10-of-15 field goals and 10-of-13 free throws to post his 30 points with 14 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal.
In Saturday's 83-51 win at Ole Miss, Mitchell had a team high 17 points with five rebounds, making 7-of-13 field goals and 3-of-4 free throws.
Hightower, a junior from Arlington, Texas, has reached double-figures in scoring in three consecutive games. She tossed in 15 points with two rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists at New Orleans on Jan. 8.
Hightower then poured in a career-high 22 points on 10-of-16 shooting at 18th-ranked Vanderbilt on Jan. 18. She drained her first five shots and finished with seven rebounds, two assists and a career-high-tying four steals.
Hightower's 22 points were the most by an LSU guard since Quianna Chaney had 22 points against top-ranked UConn on Feb. 25 last season.
It was also the second-highest point output by an LSU player this season. For the two games, she averaged 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds.
