OPFD accepting applications for firefighters The Ouachita Parish Fire Department is seeking applicants for the position of firefighter.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, citizens of the United States, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and have a valid driver's license.
The department aims to hire eight to 10 firefighters from the qualified applicants.
Those wishing to apply may pick up an application package at the Ouachita Parish Fire Department's Training Center at 1000 New Natchitoches Road in West Monroe any weekday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The application package must be returned no later than 4 p.m. on Feb. 6 and must contain copies of the following documents:
• Birth certificate (verifying age and citizenship);
• High school diploma or GED equivalency certificate;
• Current driver's license;
• Two self-addressed, stamped envelopes.
Qualified applicants will be admitted to take a Civil Service examination on March 10, 2009 at the Ouachita Parish Fire Department's Training Center. Those who pass the Civil Service examination will be required to pass a physical agility test to demonstrate sufficient physical fitness to perform the essential duties of the position.
A medical examination will also be required after an offer for employment. |
