Julian W. Brandao Sr.
Mr. Julian W. Brandao Sr., 74, of West Monroe, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, in West Monroe.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe with Father Joseph Puthuppally officiating. Interment was in Rhymes Cemetery in Richland Parish.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Viola Brandao; parents, Julian Marcel and Ollie Minnie Brandao; brother, Don Brandao; and very special uncle, Denson Smith.
Survivors include his sons, Julian "Jay" Brandao and wife, Rose, of Orange, Texas, James "Pat" Brandao and wife, Shirley, of West Monroe, Daniel "Keith" Brandao and wife, Patty, of Pinehurst, Idaho, Denson "Marcel" Brandao and wife, Laura, of West Monroe; 14 grandchildren, Rhine, Dominic, Jeremy, Shane, William, Michelle, Heather, Jessica, Chelsey, Kullen, Kasey, Jacob, Monica and Zoe; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Pat Williams, Toby Danna, David Danna, Jeremy Broussard, Scott Brown and George Brown.

George James Burroughs
Mr. George James Burroughs, 90, of Monroe, passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2008.
His funeral and masonic service was at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Don Glover officiating. Interment was in Rayville Masonic Cemetery in Rayville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Odell Burroughs; and son, Bill Burroughs.
Survivors include his two daughters, Virginia Pike and husband, Harold, and Dorothy Jean Cobb and husband, Charles; sister, Hazel Hand; daughter-in-law, Mariana Burroughs; grandchildren, Jamie Culver and husband, Terry, Tina Rabalais and husband, Ernie, Darrel Pike and wife, Barbara, Toni Giffen, Phillip Pike, Richard Burroughs, Karen LeBlanc and Brian Pike; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Darrel, Phillip, and Brian Pike, Terry and Jay Culver, Ernie Rabalais, Justin Branham and Richard Burroughs.

Annie Frances Martin Chaney
Mrs. Annie Frances Martin Chaney, 92, of Monroe, departed this earth on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Dr. Alan Miller officiating. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roxie Halbrooks Martin and Alvy Columbus "Lum" Martin; husband, T.E. "Tooty" Chaney; brothers, Paul Martin, Butch Martin and A.C. Martin Jr.; and sister, Nita Walker.
Survivors include her son, Floyd Chaney and wife, Glenda; daughter, Marjo Stephens and husband, Jim; grandchildren and stepgrandchildren, Cinnamon Chaney, Sam Chaney, Kalynda Cook, Kalisha and Scott Olds, and Jamie and Charles Roark; four step great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends, including her special friends at McKeen Plaza.
Pallbearers were Sam Chaney, Jason Smith, Eddie Hebert, Charles Roark, Jack Walker, Mike Swinney and Terry Slawson.

Jimmye L. Conerly
Mr. Jimmye L. Conerly, 85, passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008.
A reception will be held in early 2009 to honor the lives of Jim and his son, Mike, with private burial of ashes to follow.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mari Lynn Ferguson Conerly; son, Charles M. "Mike" Conerly; a brother, Charles "Bill" Conerly; and his sister and brother-in-law, Loyce and Adam Priou.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Carla-Beth Conerly; his son and daughter-in-law, Marc and Rickie Conerly; a grandson, Shawn McAdams; granddaughter, Shaina Conerly; and great-grandson, Aiden Conerly, all of West Monroe; a stepson and his wife, Paris and Lela Soulier of Denton, Texas; and many good friends.
Memorials may be made to the Ouachita Council on Aging, 2407 Ferrand, Monroe, LA 71201, and to the Rays of Sunshine, 614 No. 3rd St., Monroe, LA 71201.

Isaleyne Fortenberry
Mrs. Isaleyne Fortenberry, 86, of West Monroe, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2008.
Her funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe with Dr. Alan Miller officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Fortenberry and brother, Alfred Keith.
Survivors include her children, Dorothy Sims(wife of the late Robert W. Sims) of West Monroe, Norman W. Fortenberry and wife, Janie, of Vicksburg, Miss., Keith Fortenberry and wife, Tami, of The Woodlands, Texas, Glenda Beasley and husband, Jerry, of West Monroe, and Margaret Salter and husband, Doug, of West Monroe; 10 grandchildren, Whitney Hurd, Benjamin Fortenberry, Keith Wayne Fortenberry, Dwight Fortenberry, Adam Beasley, Sarah Beasley, Derek Salter, Patrick Salter, Mackenzie Salter and Sydney Salter; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Keith of Victoria, Texas; sister, Betty Spiers of Bossier City; brother, Bobby P. Keith and wife, Doris, of Birmingham, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Adam Beasley, Dwight Fortenberry, Benjamin Fortenberry, Patrick Salter, Derek Salter and John Parker.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Louisiana Children's Home or to the charity of your choice.

Ronald Lee Franks
Mr. R.L. Franks, 76, of West Monroe, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, in West Monroe.
His funeral was at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in West Monroe with Brother Carl Shurte officiating. Interment was at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun.
Survivors include Sue Franks; son, Paul Franks and fianceé, LaDette Morris; daughter, Rhonda Snow and husband, Larry; grandsons, Eric Snow and Malachi Franks; brothers, Alsey Franks and wife, Avis, Carl Franks and Raymond Franks; sisters, Irma Jean Justice and husband, John, and Shirley Palamo; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Louis Gray Haynes
Mr. Louis Gray Haynes of West Monroe, died peacefully at home surrounded by his cherished family on his 85th birthday, Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008.
Memorial services were at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at First Baptist Church of Calhoun with Rev. Phillip Raybourn and Rev. Neil Everett officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Grady Haynes Sr. and Elva Wall Haynes, and his brother, J.G. Haynes Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 54 years, Lander; daughters, Louise Ramsa of Fort Worth, Texas, Kate Wiley and husband, George, of West Monroe, and Elizabeth Secor and husband, Dale, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Rachel E. Raybourn and husband, Zach, serving in the United States Army, Candise Ramsa and Zachary Streeter; and two great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorial donations be made to Louisiana Baptist Children's Home in Monroe.

Dennis Hollingsworth
Dennis Hollingsworth, 52, of West Monroe, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, in his residence.
His funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe with Rev. Kevin Ropp officiating. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Calhoun.
Survivors include his parents, C.A. and Bobbie Hollingsworth; sister, Belinda Enterkin and friend, R.L. Axton; nephew, Grafton Dempsey and wife, Lisa; great niece and nephew, Kimberlyn Dempsey and Gavin Dempsey; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Pallbearers were Mark Sanders, Mark Coker, Troy Biscomb, Kirk Williams, Timmy Richardson and Keith Billings. Honorary pallbearers were Larry White, Chance Williams and Richard E. Johnson.

Jack Linn Keirn Jr.
Mr. Jack Linn Keirn, Jr., 51, of West Monroe, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008.
Visitation was from noon-1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack Linn Keirn Sr. and Annie Mae Taylor Keirn.
He is survived by Plessey L. Christy.
Pallbearers were Craig Christy, Leon Christy, Scott Haley, Gregg Haley, Skip Fife and Gary Abreu.

Elethia Edwards Kelly
Mrs. Elethia Edwards Kelly, 94, of Monroe, passed away Friday, Dec. 12, 2008.
Her funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Revs. Jimmy Pitson and George Worthen officiating. Interment was in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by sons, James D. Kelly Jr. and Robert Pheland D. Kelly.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Dr. James D. Kelly; sons, Benjamin Curney Kelly and John D. Kelly and wife, Vicki; granddaughter, Kenda K. Ducote and husband, Darren, and great-granddaughter, Addison C. Ducote; and granddaughters, Kathryn Kelly and Sarah Kelly.

Angie Lena Morris
Mrs. Angie Lena Morris, 83, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe.
Her funeral was at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Lindle Stewart officiating. Interment was at New Light Baptist Church Cemetery in Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Morris; parents, Rosie and Bouie Shaw; and brother, Freeman Shaw.
Survivors include her children, Delores Wood and husband, Lester, Bruce Morris and wife, Faye, and Jerel Morris and wife, Judy; sister, Effie McGough; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Howard Willbanks Morton
Howard Willbanks Morton, 93, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at St. Francis North Hospital in Monroe.
A memorial service was at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Allison Moody officiating. A private family interment was held Thursday morning. Arrangements were by Mulhearn Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn Stafford Morton; parents, Virgie and Mardis Morton; and son-in-law, Henry H. Hinkle.
Survivors include his two daughters, Lucille Morton Hinkle Smith and husband, Arthur, and Christy Louise Morton Stone and husband, Jimmy, and their children, Dr. Henry H. Hinkle III and wife, Amy, and children, Caroline, Sarah Kate and Henry H. Hinkle IV; his second wife, Jibby Langford Fox Morton with sons, John S. Fox and wife, Charlotte, and James L. Fox, and grandson, Sean Fox, and wife, Tina; his granddaughter, Shelby Stone Mott, her son, Emmit Mott; and James J. Walter Stone.
Memorials can be given to The First Presbyterian Church, Lions Eye Foundation, or the charity of choice.

Victor B. Rutledge
Mr. Victor B. Rutledge, 89, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008.
His funeral was at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Rick McPhearson officiating. Interment was in Rutledge Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anniece Rogers Rutledge; and son, James Edgar Rutledge, II.
Survivors include his daughters, Martha Rutledge of West Monroe, Vickie Hidalgo and his favorite son-in-law, Paul Hidalgo, of Springfield; two grandchildren, Michael Hidalgo of West Monroe and Jessica Dennis and her husband, Dave, of Springfield.
Pallbearers were Roger Rutledge, Larry Rutledge, Brack Rutledge, Michael Hidalgo, Paul Hidalgo and Bobby Murphy.
Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Joe I. Swenk
Funeral services for Mr. Joe I. Swenk, 65, of West Monroe, were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe with Rev. Nick Rogers and Rev. Rick Crandall officiating. Interment was at Riverview Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Janis Swenk; daughter, Lori Pearce and husband, Corey; son, Rocky Joe Swenk; mother, Gertrude Swenk King; grandsons, Joshua, Logan, Parker and Luke Pearce; granddaughter, Nicole Swenk; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Swenk; brother, Roy Swenk; sister, Sue Kent and husband, Jack; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Pallbearers were Tommy Kent, Jay Kent, Jack Kent Jr., John Kent, Cody Kent, Brandon Kent, Joshua Pearce and William Monk.

Charles Towers
Mr. Charles Towers, 92, of West Monroe, passed away Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, in Monroe.
His funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at First Baptist Church of West Monroe with Rev. Woods Watson officiating. Interment was at Monroe Memorial Park in Monroe under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of West Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bernice Towers, in April 2007; his parents, William and Frances Rainbolt Tower; a sister, Alice Dunn; and a brother, Robert Tower.
Survivors include his sons, Jerry Towers and wife, Wanda, and Tommy Wrenn and wife, Helen; four grandchildren, Greg Wrenn and wife, Marilyn, Donna Spears and husband, Gene, Jay Towers and wife, Tessa, and Jill Towers; four great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Bowman; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Glover.
Pallbearers were Eugene Eppinette, Tom McCandlish, Judge Charles Traylor II, Judge Charles Joiner, Bobby Wilson, Greg Wrenn, Jay Towers and Gene Spears. Honorary pallbearers were Bert Hatten, Judge William Norris, Red Sims, Don Zeigler and June Thatcher.

Evelyn Gibbs Williams
Mrs. Evelyn Gibbs Williams, 85, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008.
Her funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Claud Hughes officiating. Interment was in Oak Ridge Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Phillip Williams and her parents, Emmett Norwood and Mabel Hill Gibbs.
Survivors include son, Phillip McRae Williams and wife, Toni, of Oak Ridge; daughters, Kathleen W. McAleney and husband, Peter, of Portland, Maine and Marilyn W. Jernigan and husband, Jimmy, of Dallas, Texas; grandson, James Matthew Hill McAleney and wife, Rebecca; granddaughter, Heather Nicole Williams Heydens and husband, Jason; great-grandson, George Thomas Heydens; and great-granddaughter, Josephine Michelle McAleney.
Pallbearers were Dr. Louie Crook, Johnnie Fitch, Charles Green, Henry E. Stevenson Jr., Andy Barham and George Young.
