Genealogist Lora Peppers, who works at the Ouachita Parish Public Library, was the guest speaker at the recent meeting of the Chief Tusquahoma chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Her topic was "Little Known Facts About People and Places." Peppers said that when she was hired to work for the library, her first task was to catalogue the obituaries from the earliest newspapers in Monroe and West Monroe, from the late 1800s. She said that obituaries in earlier times included more information than is the custom today. She shared several interesting obituaries and other facts.

Opening rituals were conducted by Gwen Clark, regent. Guest Katelyn Clark, daughter of Larry and Paige Clark, recited an original poem that she had written about the American flag. She was introduced by Billie Alderman, flag chairman. After her reading, those in attendance said the pledge of allegiance to the American flag.

The national defense report was read by Mary Katherine Reighney, who also submitted minutes from the last meetings. Toni Rodgers presented the treasurer's report. Barbara Gewin, veteran chairman, shared a composition about past and present veterans.

Hostesses were Wyolene Rainer and Jan Downing. Those in attendance not mentioned above include Emma Jean Willis, Gail Collins, Gay Hall, Fannie Oliver, Viola Nugent, Mary Davis, Delores Gewin, Lillian Dunlap, Christy Edwards, Dottie Glover, Jo Bennett and Kate McLendon.
