U.S. REP. Rodney Alexander presents John Miles of Monroe with one of the several medals he was awarded Monday. Miles was presented with the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge 1st Award, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and the Honorable Service Lapel Button. Miles served six and a half years in the military. He was injured in 1944 when a fragment of an artillery shell tore through his leg. Miles turns 90 today, Nov. 13.
