Carroll to battle mighty Bastrop Rams

The Franklin Parish Patriots (1-7, 1-3 district 2-4A) earned their first victory of the season with a 32-8 win over Carroll last Friday night.

Carroll will now shift its attention to the defending state champion Bastrop Rams this Friday night.

Quarterback Sidney McMillan went 2-of-2 for 42 yards as well as 58 yards rushing to lead the Patriots to victory.

"It was a true team effort," Franklin Parish head coach Barry Sebren said. "We played hard and made big plays on both sides of the football."

McMillan was not alone as Adrian Gardner ran for 278 yards for FPHS. The Patriots totaled 464 yards rushing on Carroll in the game.

FPHS running back Tony Shaw started the scoring on a 10-yard touchdown run just minutes into the contest.

Carroll got on the scoreboard before halftime with a ZuBrandon Brown touchdown run of three-yards. Bulldogs quarterback Xavier Gray converted on a two-point run to get on the board before halftime, where the Patriots kept the lead at 20-8.

Carroll struggled to move the ball in the second half as the FPHS defense clamped down on the C-Dogs.

"We have to be more consistent," Carroll head coach Jackie Hamilton said. "We did not move the ball on offense and we cannot have any turnovers to play with Bastrop."

Gray was just 8-of-19 for 61 yards and one interception in the game. Carroll forced two turnovers by way of fumbles but could not convert the plays into points in the second half against Franklin Parish.

Bastrop won another district championship by beating West Ouachita 44-6 last week. The top-ranked Rams (8-0) were lead by the 296 yards passing from quarterback Reuben Randle.

The size and speed of Bastrop may be the main concern this week. Carroll will have to improve their offensive production to keep the defense off the field as much as possible.
