It's now or never for LSU

Nick Saban returns to Death Valley for the first time since 2005 on Saturday when his No. 1 Alabama squad looks to retain their top ranking against the No. 15 LSU Tigers.

Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. on CBS.

LSU is coming off another lackluster performance in a 28-7 win over in-state foe Tulane last week in Baton Rouge.

First-year quarterback Jarrett Lee has shown flashes of greatness in wins at Auburn and South Carolina. Lee led LSU on fourth-quarter scoring drives that won those contests. However, the Brenham, Texas, native has also thrown interceptions resulting in touchdowns in the last four weeks.

LSU running back Charles Scott has emerged as one of the SEC's premier rushers. While receivers such as Demetrius Byrd and Terrence Tolliver have made some spectacular catches, they also have some costly dropped passes under their belts.

A repeat of tough LSU losses to Florida or Georgia would spell the end of gold-plated BCS dreams for the Bayou Bengals.

Anything less than SEC championships will not be tolerated by a fan base that has gotten a taste of being a consistent national championship contender. This game will see LSU trying to stay relevant in the big picture of college football.
