Rebels travel to Natchitoches Central
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The West Monroe Rebels extended dominance over Ruston with a 31-8 win last week, and look to extend their winning streak as they travel this Friday to Natchitoches Central.

West Monroe (7-0, 6-0 district 1-5A) was sharp from the opening whistle in dispatching the Ruston team.

The Rebel defense allowed 234 yards of total offense while quarterback D.J. Banks led the offense with 112 yards rushing, 99 yards and a pair of touchdowns passing.

Tight end Tyler Underwood had a break-out game with a pair of touchdown catches. While teams continue to keep a close tab on running back Ladarius Abrams, the Rebels' young talent at the skill possessions are coming up with big plays to keep the Rebels on top of the district championship race.

"We want to get more physical like against Ruston," West Monroe head coach Don Shows said. "We need to also continue to protect the football and not have any mental mistakes such as penalties."

The Natchitoches Central Chiefs (0-8, 0-6) were roughed up by Airline last week, 48-14. The Chiefs defense has yet to find its identity while allowing more than 46 points per game.

Running back Dezerick Williams has provided the speed out of the backfield, but turning the ball over has prompted the Chiefs to continue to seek for their first victory of the season. The offense had three turnovers against Airline.

It is a point the Rebels will try to exploit with an offense led by junior quarterback Chris Mitchell.
