St. Fred looks for rebound against Bernice

The Saint Frederick Warriors (4-4) are looking to get back into the win column with a trip to Bernice Friday night for a 7 p.m. game against the Bears.

Chris Buttitta led the Warriors with 140 yards rushing in a 32-14 loss to Arcadia last week. Arcadia may have had too much speed for the Warriors, but a lack of preparation may have had something to do with it, too, according to head coach Paul Guerriero.

"We did not mentally prepare for the game as we needed to," Guerriero said. "We have to get ourselves ready to play and focus to be successful."

Landon Williams scored on a late touchdown run to pull the game close and has continued to put points on the scoreboard. Buttitta, who leads the team in rushing yards and just trails in the total touchdown lead behind Williams, has also helped with putting points up.

Wide receiver Nick Leehy has recorded four touchdowns in district play as the Warriors add more depth to their offensive scheme.

Zach Lasuzzo leads a St. Frederick defense in interceptions and has also contributed with a blocked punt this season.

Bernice (1-7) has seen some success with their passing game this year. The Bears have spread the offense out and produced with an average of 12.5 points per game. However, the defense has had its share of trouble against the run and getting the third down conversion stops needed to save the offense from playing from behind.

Bernice has yielded 47.7 points per game in three district games. Saint Frederick is averaging 28 points per game in that same time span.
