River Oaks ready to take on Cenla Christian

The River Oaks Mustangs (6-3) will look to continue to momentum from a playoff-clinching victory over Prairie View Academy when they kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday at Central Louisiana Christian.

Cenla Christian will bring a powerful rushing attack into the contest behind running back Derrick Thomas who is averaging better than 150 yards per game this season.

"They have a physical running game," River Oaks head coach Robert Hannah said. "We must play our assignments and play together to be successful."

Cenla Christian (5-4) is playing tough through their second season of Mississippi Private School Association Class A football.

Dartavies Green, a week-four transfer from Peabody Magnet School, has also sparked the Lions on offense. Green has compiled good stats, but is dwarfed by the nearly 1,000 yards rushing that Thomas has amassed during the 2008 season.

The Cenla defense has stepped up and made plays in critical situations and will be a challenge for River Oaks as well.

Mustangs quarterback Cody Trichell has continued to be a game changer with a pair of touchdowns last week against Prairie View.

The emergence of Will White as another viable option in the running game has River Oaks excited. White ran for a 18-yard touchdown in the first half last week.

"We are executing well offensively," Hannah said. "We have to correct those mistakes that we have made and continue to work hard to close out the regular season."
