Farmerville squeaks past Sterlington
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Farmerville running back LaDarien Brown got the last laugh in an exciting finish to one of the region's most heated rivalries.

Brown bounced outside in the overtime period for a six-yard touchdown run to give Farmerville (7-, 3-0 in district 2-2A) an electric 51-50 victory over Sterlington on homecoming night at Panther Stadium.

"We had some problems in our defense of making tackles." Sterlington head coach Mike Collins. "We contained their rushing attack most of the night."

Brown ran for 222 yards and four touchdowns to pace the Farmers in the victory. Sterlington(3-5, 1-1) quarterback Logan Dobson passed 302 yards on 13-of-24 passing.

"We now look like I was expecting all year on offense," Collins said. "We made some good plays against Farmerville."

The Panthers started off on the fast track when De'Aundre Gray raced to the endzone from 22-yards out to give Sterlington a 7-0 advantage.

Wesley Woods, an unsung hero for Farmerville this season, scored from 33-yards out to tie-up the score, 7-7.

"We did some good things in the first half against a good rushing attack," Collins said. "We need to tackle better in the future."

Gray rushed for 45 yards on 10 carries and recorded his second touchdown run in the third quarter.

Sterlington built a 44-30 fourth-quarter lead before Farmerville made a furious comeback behind quarterback Corderious Nation, who threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Carl Pearson late in the contest.

Nation led the Farmers on a long drive capped by a Brown touchdown run of four yards to cut the Panthers lead down to 44-38.

Nation tied the game on a 40-yard touchdown pass to Carl Pearson late in the contest. Nation completed 10-of-16 passes for 163 yards.
