River Oaks overpowers Prairie View
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The River Oaks Mustangs (6-3) dominated for four quarters in a 36-6 win over Prairie View Academy of Bastrop Friday night.

Quarterback Cody Trichell again ignited a Mustangs offense looking to run into the Mississippi Private School Association playoffs for the first time in two years.

Trichell passed 241 yards on 11-of-17 yards and a pair of touchdowns with just one interception.

"We played real well on offense mixing up the pass and run," River Oaks head coach Robert Hannah said. "Cody (Trichell) was great directing the offense with great passes."

Lance Ginn caught his first touchdown pass of the season when he hauled in a 51-yard strike from Trichell to open the scoring for River Oaks.

An 18-yard jaunt by Will White put River Oaks out in front by a score of 14-0. Prairie View quickly answered with a 31-yard touchdown run to cut the River Oaks advantage at halftime down to 14-7.

Trichell took matters into his own hands after intermission to secure the win and a playoff spot for River Oaks when he found Charles Bowie for a 57-yard touchdown pass. Minutes later, Trichell ran in a 21-yard touchdown of his own.

The River Oaks defense limited Prairie View's passing game during the win. Coley Rahn recorded eight tackles — and two tackles for losses — to lead the Mustangs.

Prairie View completed just 4-of-15 passes for a mere 58 yards on Friday night. Running back Allen Spires of Prairie View was stuffed most of the night by an opportunistic River Oaks defense. Spires ran for just 31 yards on 11 carries.

Prairie View was led in rushing by Robby Jones who had 36 yards on three carries. Trichell recorded 75 yards on 13 carries for the Mustangs.
