Ouachita rips Captain Shreve
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Ouachita Lions (6-2, 5-1 in district 1-5A) started slow in a 38-15 victory over district foe Captain Shreve (2-4) at Lions Stadium Friday night.

Running back Montrell Conner was still shaking off the rust of missing some games with sore ribs with a trio of fumbles during the game.

"We had some major turnover problems," Ouachita head coach John Carr said. "We were able to step up defensively and those guys did some real good things to keep us out front."

Captain Shreve came out with a flare for the dramatic after a Ouachita fumble. Running back Greg Washington rumbled 90-yards to pay dirt to give the Gators the early 7-0 advantage.

Following a Matt Little field goal of 28 yards, the Ouachita defense stuffed Captain Shreve to set up the first Lions touchdown.

Quarterback Corey Treadway threw a quick touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Williams to give Ouachita a 10-7 advantage in the second quarter. Conner found a hole in the Gators defense on the next Ouachita possession to extend the lead to 17-3.

"Conner was a little rusty out of the gate," Carr said. "He had a good second half and found some holes we opened up for him in the offensive line. We did some real good things running and throwing the football."

Nick Ross kept up the defensive pressure for Ouachita as he began the second half with a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown. Conner ran for 160 yards and three touchdowns, two of which came in the second half.

The balanced Ouachita offense saw Treadway complete 14-of-21 passes for 162 yards. Ouachita gained 364 yards of offense compared to 258 yards for Captain Shreve.

Washington was the leading rusher for the Gators as he picked up 129 yards on just nine carries during the game.
