Northeast Baptist takes second in inaugural season

With football games happening all over Ouachita Parish, one team in the area has already taken post-season honors.

The Northeast Baptist School Knights took second place in the 8-man football division of the Arkansas/Louisiana Christian Athletic League.

NBS was in their first year of 8-man football after years of 6-man gridiron action. Head coach Benny Pennington led the Knights to the championship game, which they lost to Union Christian Academy, 1-0.

Dual-threat quarterback Jake Pennington found wideout Luke Brewer twice in the semi-final victory for Northeast Baptist to set up the Louisiana championship showdown in Farmerville against Union Christian Academy.

Running backs Alex Wyles and Tyler Albritton helped along a young NBS rushing attack that was one of the most dangerous in all of the ALCAL.

Jonathan Ward and Blake Pennington led the Knights defensive unit, which was instrumental in the break-out season for Northeast Baptist School.

A great effort came up a bit short when UCA established their rushing attack early and often at Doc Elliott Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Knights threatened to score several times during a hard-hitting first half of action, but the UCA defense stood tall to withstand the Knights' own rushing attack.

Pennington again led NBS in rushing and passing during their inaugural football season for the school.
