Richwood ready to rumble
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
A spirit of determination helped boost the Richwood Rams to 28-14 win over Booker T. Washington Friday night.

That spirit will need to carry the Rams to success at Rayville this week. The Hornets are coming in with one of the best passing games in Class 3-A football, with Phaquenton Lawson throwing to wide receiver and LSU commitment Kenny Bell.

The duo has wreaked havoc on opposing defenses and Richwood's (4-3, 1-1) young secondary will have to play flawlessly to keep up with the Hornets' vaunted passing game.

"They have so many good athletes," Richwood head coach Warren Trimble said. "They can hurt you from anywhere on the field."

Rayville has been pretty consistent on defense as well. Richwood now can employ either Anthony Abraham or Greg Johnson at quarterback to throw off the Hornet defenders.

"We have been pleased with the progression at quarterback," Trimble said. "We need to continue to play well up front and stay with our blocks."

The Hornets may be athletic, but with a focus this week on containment, the Richwood defense may be well prepared to propel themselves to a district championship. Many consider the game to decide the championship, as well as who might or might not be at home in the first round of the playoffs.

Trimble believes his team may win or lose in the offensive lines, where they must contend with a physical line of Rayville. Protecting either signal caller or running back Richard Wilson may be the key to a victory come Friday night.
