Story Archives: West Ouachita travels to Franklin Parish

West Ouachita travels to Franklin Parish

The West Ouachita Chiefs (5-2) are looking for a fourth consecutive win when they travel to Franklin Parish this week.

West Ouachita (5-2) is coming off a win at Carroll, 21-18, last week.

"They (West Ouachita) run the option real well," Franklin Parish head coach Barry Sebren said. "We have to stop their dive on the option and take care of our assignments on the quarterback."

Chiefs quarterback Matt Calhoun has torched opposing defenses for seven touchdowns during the past three weeks and continues to get the ball into his teammates' hands.

On offense, the Patriots have had moments of greatness from quarterback Sidney McMillan and running back Tony Shaw. Mental mistakes and costly turnovers have doomed Franklin Parish for most of the year.

That is good news for a physical West Ouachita defense that has produced six turnovers in the last three games to help the team to victory.

The offense has been no slouch either. The Chiefs are averaging 34.7 points per game during the streak that began at home against Tioga.

Kickoff in Franklin Parish is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Patriots will hold a "Mom's Night" as well as senior recognition during their homecoming contest with the Chiefs.
