Story Archives: Sterlington to host Farmerville

Sterlington to host Farmerville
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Sterlington Panthers look to continue their recent success when they host Farmerville Friday night.

Farmerville (6-1) has been as good as any Class 2-A school in northeast Louisiana this season. The Farmers have won six straight games since losing to Homer to begin the season.

"They are bigger than us," Sterlington head coach Mike Collins said. "We will have to be solid in every phase of the game."

Playing with some confidence now after a solid victory over district rival Ferriday, Sterlington has new found confidence in its rushing attack.

Running back Marquis Douglas found the endzone early and then again in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from quarterback Logan Dobson.

"Logan (Dobson) is managing the game better," Collins said. "He did a real good job last game of protecting the football."

Sterlington seems to be playing with a more focused attitude now more than ever. The Panthers have limited mental mistakes and penalties last week that plagued them in early season losses.

Farmerville will test the young Sterlington defensive unit with their speed at the skill positions. It will be a test of willpower to see if the under-sized Sterlington line can penetrate for some much needed pressure in the Farmerville backfield.

Sterlington leads the all-time series with the Farmers, a point that has the Famerville faithful ready to invade Panther Stadium with intensity and passion.
