OCS tangles with Grambling

The Ouachita Christian School Eagles (6-1, 2-0 district 2-1A) will entertain the Grambling Lab Kittens (4-3) on Friday night.

OCS, ranked No. 2 this week in state 1A polls, has been the most consistent offense in the area this season. Led by quarterback Jacob Davis, OCS averages over 400 yards and 42 points per game.

Matt Kennedy and Dustin Andrews have come from the running back position to give OCS an offensive spark when defenses key their attention on Davis.

"We have played real well on offense," OCS head coach Steven Fitzhugh said. "We are playing good as a team and not as individuals."

The defense stood tall under pressure by Arcadia last week. The Eagles limited Arcadia to just 68 yards passing and did not allow an Arcadia touchdown in the second half until late in the ballgame.

Grambling has not had the success of Arcadia, but they will present just as much speed at the skill positions.

"We have to play our assignments perfectly," Fitzhugh said. "They have so much speed out there we must keep up with."

The Grambling defense has been big and physical this season. The Kittens have recorded a pair of shutouts against Northwood-Lena and Hanna.

Last week, Grambling jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 27-7 win over Bernice.

The Eagles will try to remain focused on taking care of the football on Friday: a district championship could be riding on their every move.
