Richwood reels off victory against BTW

Showing a fire and determination in district play is very important this time of year and it was an extra boost to the Richwood Rams in a 28-14 win over Booker T. Washington Friday night.

"I think our kids settled down and stayed with their blocks," Richwood coach Warren Trimble said. "We had a little bit more bounce in our step."

The Richwood defense was exceptionally peppy on Friday as they held BTW to just 137 yards of total offense.

Things did not start well for the Richwood (4-3) who had to come from 14-0 down after a slow start offensively.

BTW (4-3) started fast and kept the Richwood offense ineffective in the game's opening frame. It was not until middle of the second quarter before Greg Johnson got Richwood on the scoreboard.

Most of the BTW damage was offensively and done in the first quarter. A pair of Richwood turnovers kept the Rams from being able to close things out effectively.

Johnson finished with 113 yards passing while completing 13-of-21 passes. Richard Wilson and Johnson were studs in the backfield all night long.

The Rams really opened up the running game in the second half to finish with 181 rushing yards as a team. The turnaround pushed Richwood ahead after trailing 14-7 at halftime.

While the Richwood offense was reviving the Rams' chances for victory, the Richwood defense deflected everything BTW threw into the battle after intermission.

BTW had multiple chances to make a stand in the fourth quarter but a lot of passes were deflected by an inspired Richwood secondary. Running back Jessie Sheppard was stalled for just 60 yards on 20 carries.

Richwood used a methodical rushing attack in the second half to sustain long scoring drives and kill any chance of a comeback from Booker T. Washington.
