Wossman stumbles at Madison

The Wossman Wildcats saw their starting quarterback return on Friday night in Bam Charleston.

Wossman also saw the chance to grab solid hold of the district championship race slip through their fingers in a 7-6 loss at Madison.

Wossman (4-3, 0-2) has now lost three consecutive games after starting the season in the driver's seat of Class 3A.

"We did some good things on defense," Wossman head coach Vince Landrum said. "We got the passing game going a little bit, too."

Indeed, the first and only score for the Wildcats came when Charleston hit wide receiver DeMorius Hamburg on a 49-yard touchdown strike.

The teams battled through a 0-0 tie through the first three quarters until Wossman opened the scoring with under 10 minutes remaining in the contest.

Wilbert Williams led Wossman in rushing with 71 yards on 12 carries. Coming off of a knee injury, Charleston ran twice for 13 yards. Charleston was much more effective through the air completing 7-of-10 passes for 107 yards with the one touchdown toss.

Hamburg had his best night of the season for Wossman in a coming-out party of sorts for him. Hamburg had 132 yards receiving on just three catches in the losing effort.

Madison took over the lead for good moments after the Hamburg touchdown reception with a touchdown run.

Quarterback Hollis Meadow found a seam in the Wossman defense and strolled in from eight yards out to give Madison a 7-6 lead they would not surrender.
