Neville claws past Franklin Parish
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Neville Tigers pounced on Franklin Parish early with a punishing rushing attack en route to a 41-8 victory Friday night in district 2-4A action at Bill Ruple Stadium.

Neville amassed 304 yards rushing and started the scoring on the ground with first-quarter touchdown runs from Ricco Pollard and DeAndre Reed.

"We stayed there in the first half," Franklin Parish head coach Barry Sebren said. "We could not match up with them physically. They were also more mature than we were."

A 14-0 first quarter put Neville ahead to stay. Neville quarterback Taylor Birch found daylight on a three-yard touchdown run before the Patriots made fans take notice on their own scoring drive.

Sydney McMillan orchestrated a long touchdown drive that saw him find a rhythm through the air. McMillan completed a pair of passes to move the ball into Neville territory.

Tony Shaw finished the drive with a nice 30-yard touchdown run down the sideline. Franklin Parish could not get closer than 21-8 the rest of the way.

McMillan was 3-of-8 for 68 yards on a night where the pass rush was in his face most of the evening.

"Their pass rush was a killer," Sebren said. "I felt like we were right there at halftime after the big touchdown run by Tony (Shaw)."

Pollard finished the game with 73 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries for Neville. Reed again was the Tigers' go-to man with 119 yards and two touchdowns for Neville (6-1).

Taylor Birch was 11-of-19 for 153 yards passing for Neville as they continue to challenge for the district championship.
