Ouachita devours Natchitoches Central

A set of bruised ribs kept all-state hopeful Montrell Conner from playing all but one snap Friday night, but the Ouachita Lions never missed a beat.

Conner did not practice during the week, and Ouachita saw the running back fumble on his first carry, before the Lions put it together for a 38-6 victory at Turpin Stadium.

Quarterback Corey Treadway stepped up his production for the Lions with 257 yards and three touchdowns as Ouachita passed the road district test with flying colors.

"Montrell (Conner) will be fine," Ouachita head coach John Carr said. "Corey (Treadway) had an outstanding game and continues to get better each week."

Kenyan Harris replaced Conner and got things going on the ground with 72 yards on 12 carries.

This was one night the Ouachita offense got a lot of time to work on many different situations against the Chiefs.

It was all Ouachita from the beginning as Treadway had 247 yards passing in the opening two frames to send the Lions to the lockers holding a 31-0 advantage. Treadway added a rushing touchdown to his totals as well.

The Ouachita defense forced the Chiefs into long yardage situations and Natchitohces Central had just 134 yards and eight first downs at the end of the night.

"I thought the defense played real well," Carr said. "We scored some points and the guys did some good things out there tonight."

Ouachita could have possibly had an even larger lead at halftime, but the completion percentage plummeted thanks to some uncharacteristic drops on the part of the Ouachita offense, Carr said.

Special team play continued to be just that for the Lions. Matt Little converted on all five of his PAT attempts. The kicker also added a 38-yard field goal to his Friday night performance.
