Mustangs tangle with Trinity
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Another rivalry game hits the field this week as the River Oaks Mustangs (5-2) battle the first-place Trinity Saints (7-0).

Ranked No.1 in class 2-A of the Mississippi Private School Association this week, Trinity has run over all-comers on its quest for another championship.

"They are really physical," River Oaks head coach Robert Hannah said. "We have to know our defensive assignments and continue to play hard on every play."

Cody Trichell has been playing both offense and defense and doing a fine job for the Mustangs. Trichell had a pair of touchdown passes in a close loss to Central Private last week.

Trichell can run the ball as well, but it is a game that may call for more to get involved to keep the offense balanced.

Gabe Bower got a touchdown reception last week, but John Rocket and Vincent Moore were absent from the box score due to a lack of a sufficient rushing attack by River Oaks.

"(Central) did a real good job against our run," Hannah said. "We have to block better and have better rushing success against Trinity."

Depth again will be a concern for River Oaks. The big, physical play of the offensive line from Trinity makes the Natchez, Miss. squad a load for the defense to handle.

Rotating the lines and making short work on each possession is something the River Oaks coaches believe will be a key for the Mustangs.

A win by River Oaks could root them deep in the soils of the MPSAA playoff picture. The squad is looking to position itself for a home game in the first round for the first time in two seasons.
