Story Archives: Neville facing Patriots

Neville facing Patriots
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Neville Tigers (5-1) are keeping pace with their rival Bastrop Rams atop the district 2-4A standings. Not one to overlook anyone, the Tigers will focus on a hungry Franklin Parish (0-5) this week.

Neville is on a five-game winning streak after defeating Carroll 47-13 in their first district tilt Friday night.

Taylor Birch has thrown for 11 touchdowns on the season for Neville. DeAndre Reed is emerging as a true touchdown terror for Neville at the running back position.

Franklin Parish will get multiple looks from the Neville offense and will have to be prepared to stop a rushing attack led by rising star DeAndre Reed. =Reed has five rushing touchdowns on the season and can be a game changer at any moment.

The Neville defense has been stout since allowing 19 points in a loss to Ruston to begin the seaston. The Tigers limited Carroll to just 99 yards passing last week.

Franklin Parish has seen steady improvement in quarterback Sidney McMillan and running back Tony Shaw. The Patriots have limited their own production on the scoreboard because of costly turnovers and penalties.

"We keep shooting ourselves in the foot," FPHS head coach Barry Sebren said. "We have a long drive and then we will have a big penalty. We have to be more consistent."

Neville has never lost to Franklin Parish in district. A transition period for the Patriots resulted in a new coaching staff and only one victory a year ago in Winnsboro.

Neville coaches and players expect a fight from a FPHS team hungry for success on such a big stage. Neville must also guard against looking forward to a showdown with top-ranked Bastrop in another week.
