Missed PAT cost River Oaks
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The River Oaks Mustangs saw their 4-game win streak snapped Friday night as Central Private came alive in the fourth quarter to prevail, 21-20.

Running back Gabe Bower plunged into the endzone from 8 yards out to put River Oaks (5-2) ahead 7-0 in the first quarter.

Bobby Muse wasted little time in knotting the score again on a 1-yard run to give Central Private points following a long, sustaining drive at the end of the opening frame of play.

The 7-7 tie at the end of the first quarter would be a preview of a battle yet to play out. Muse was the gladiator for his team, rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown on just 3 carries.

River Oaks quarterback Cody Trichell found Charles Bowie in the second quarter on a 38-yard scoring strike to give the Mustangs a 14-7 advantage.

"Cody (Trichell) did a tremendous job for us," River Oaks head coach Robert Hannah said. "We have to put some pressure off him by blocking a little better next time."

Trichell was 8-of-16 passing for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns. Trichell found Will White streaking along the sideline for a 6-yard touchdown pass near the end of the first half. The PAT was no good, handing the Mustangs a 20-7 lead at the half.

The missed PAT following White's touchdown catch began a series of events that showed how important special teams play is.

Gage Wilkerson opened the third quarter scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run for Central Private.

The second half also saw the River Oaks offense struggle to sustain anything on offense. Central Private had 203 rushing yards to just 38 rushing yards from River Oaks.

"They took away what we wanted to do in the run game," Hannah said. "They were real fast and strong on the defensive side of the football."

Thomas Bourgeois caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Central Private quarterback Jason Young late in the contest. The two-point conversion pass was successful to give Central Private a 21-20 win.
