Richwood rides big plays past Wossman

A pair of big plays set the tone for a fast-paced rivalry of epic proportions Friday between the Richwood Rams and the Wossman Wildcats. The Rams just had a little more in the gas tank in this game.

Richwood quarterback Greg Johnson rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Rams (3-3) to a 28-15 victory in their district 1-3A opener with Wossman Friday night.

"Our guys hit the holes extremely hard," Richwood head coach Warren Trimble said. "We are gaining momentum and playing together as a team."

The Rams have reeled off three straight victories after a tough early schedule left them struggling to find the win column. Wossman (4-2) dropped their second consecutive game against a Monroe rival after losing at Neville a week ago.

Richwood got on the scoreboard first with a 63-yard touchdown jaunt by Johnson. He later added a three-yard scamper to the endzone in the fourth quarter to cap his big night on the field.

DeMorris Hamburg of Wossman answered with his own 63-yard touchdown sprint to bring the Wildcats to within one, 7-6, in the first quarter.

Neither team could establish a passing game as the Rams had just 50 yards passing, compared to 33 for Wossman.

Wossman briefly grabbed the lead with a safety in the second quarter before Richwood began to pull away with a bruising rushing attack.

DeMorris Hudson ran in from 10 yards out to give Richwood the lead for good in the third quarter before Johnson scored to seal the victory.
