Neville devours Carroll
by Cody Futrell - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Neville Tigers continued their domination of local teams with a 47-13 win over the Carroll Bulldogs Friday night at The Pound.

Neville (5-1) has won five consecutive games and has steadily climbed back into contention in their district and state championship race in the LHSAA Class

Quarterback Taylor Birch was solid again for Neville with a 5-of-11 passing night for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Birch added a first-quarter rushing touchdown to lead the Tigers over the C-Dogs.

Carroll quarterback Xavier Gray was pressured into obscurity in the second half, but not before he produced in a big way in the opening half of the contest.

Gray connected on a 15-yard touchdown pass to Josh Tarver in the second quarter to give Carroll a 13-7 lead before Neville reeled off a slew of touchdown drives to pounce on the Carroll (0-6) defense.

Carroll running back Pierre Martin provided much of the offensive fireworks in the first half for the Bulldogs. Pierre finished with 41 yards on three carries. All of his yards came on the first possession of the game when he found a seam for a touchdown and a 7-0 lead for Carroll.

"(Pierre) Martin is a fantastic running back," Neville head coach Mickey McCarty said. "Our defense made some adjustments and played real well the second half."

Five consecutive touchdowns by Neville and a smother Tigers' defense proved too much for Carroll to overcome in the second half.

Neville rolled up 320 yards of rushing in the contest.  Running back DeAndre Reed led the way with 77 yards on just seven carries.  Rico Pollard had 67 yards and a touchdown. Josh Ellis added 65 yards and a third-quarter touchdown to the total of the Tigers.
