River Oaks tops rival Glenbrook, 18-7

Cody Trichell tossed a couple of touchdown passes and accounted for 159 yards in total offense to lead the River Oaks Mustangs past defending Class A state champion Glenbrook 18-7 Friday night.

Trichell completed 9-of-12 pass attempts for 121 yards and the first quarter scoring toss to Chris Bowie for the early 6-0 lead.

Bowie has recorded three touchdowns for River Oaks (5-1) in the past two games after plodding along quietly in most of the early season games.

The rejuvenated Mustangs offense took advantage of some Glenbrook turnovers as a powerful 74-yard touchdown jaunt by Vincent Moore gave River Oaks for a 12-0 lead.

Jack Giles gashed the River Oaks defense for 161 yards rushing, but Glenbrook could do little else against a talented Mustangs defense.

Glenbrook had just 229 yards of offense compared to 312 yards by River Oaks.

River Oaks coaches gave credit for the win to the defensive unit.

"We tackled so much better this week," said River Oaks head coach Robert Hannah. "We had some key pass break ups on defense."

After David Thompson found day light in the third quarter on a 28-yard touchdown run for Glenbrook, the Mustangs put the nail in the coffin with one big pass play.

Scrambling out of the pocket, Trichell found Will Wright in the endzone for a 22-yard touchdown that proved to be the game clincher the Mustangs needed from their star quarterback.

Vincent Moore led River Oaks with 85 yards rushing while Trichell added 38 yards on 10 carries.
