The St. Frederick Warriors proved all the critics wrong with a resounding 30-27 victory at LaSalle (3-2) Friday night.

St. Fred (2-3) pounded the ball inside against the LaSalle defense behind standout Chris Buttitta. Buttitta gained 165 yards and and a touchdown on 28 rushes to carry the load for the Warriors.

In the first half, St. Fred had no answer for LaSalle running back Kenny Smith. Smith opened the scoring with a 71-yard sprint to the end zone, giving LaSalle a 7-0 advantage.

After Buttitta led the Warriors into the endzone from two yards out, Smith again broke free for a 62-yard touchdown run. LaSalle led after one period of play, 14-7.

Quarterback Landon Williams had a coming out party in the contest and got his team back on the scoreboard with a three-yard scamper into the endzone moments into the second quarter to tie the game at 14 apiece.

Smith electrified the crowd again on the next St. Fred possession. This time playing defensive back, Smith broke in front of a Williams pass and raced 70-yards the other way to give LaSalle a 21-14 lead going into the lockers.

Fullback Chris Hines found the endzone from 10 yards out on the next LaSalle possession in the third quarter to give the illusion that LaSalle was running away with the game.

St. Fred quickly came to life when Williams found Nicholas Leehy streaking down the sideline for a 21-yard touchdown strike.

Two possessions later, Stephen Tyler returned an interception 70 yards to tie the game. The score would remain 27-27 after a missed PAT by the Warriors' Brooks Hummel.

St. Fred held LaSalle out of the endzone and gave Hummel a chance at redemption on the next series.

Hummel connected on a season-long field goal of 24 yards to give the Warriors the road win.
