Neville blows by Wossman, 41-6

With bragging rights on the line, cross-town rivals Neville and Wossman had plenty to play for Friday night at Bill Ruple Stadium.

When the final horn sounded, Neville was celebrating a 41-6 victory over the Wildcats.

Neville was more physical and had command of its offense from the start as the Tigers out-gained Wossman 425-170 yards in total offense.

Wossman entered the contest concerned with its turnover margin. Though the Wildcats did a good job protecting the ball, they found it difficult to move the ball against Neville's stone-wall defense.

Josh Ellis got Neville (4-1) on the scoreboard first with a 5-yard scamper but two-point conversion failed, handing Neville a 6-0 lead early on.

Matthew Squyres nailed a 30-yard field goal before the end of the opening quarter for the Tigers, extending their lead to 9-0.

Just before halftime, Neville quarterback Taylor Birch connected with Trevor Van Veckhoven on a 36-yard touchdown strike as Neville built a huge 21-6 advantage.

The only Wildcats touchdown came in the middle of quarter two when Bam Charleston found the endzone from two yards out. It was Wossman's only sustained drive on the night.

Ellis, who had three rushing touchdowns, rounded out his solid performance with an 8-yard touchdown run followed by one from nine yards away to seal Wossman's fate.

Birch had another solid night as Neville's signal-caller. He completed 7-of-18 passes for 124 yards and one touchdown.

The Neville defense held heralded Wossman running back Wilbert Williams to 45 yards on 10 carries.

Charleston passed for 60 yards on 2-of-8 passing. It was the fewest passing yards allowed by the Tigers defense in the 2008 season.

Running back De Andre Reed continues to destroy all in his path. Reed rushed for 122 yards.
