"An Evening of Musical Fantasy" will entertain audience members attending the President's Concert at the University of Louisiana Monroe at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.

ULM Division of Music faculty members will honor President Jim Cofer and First Lady Deborah Cofer, strong advocates of the arts at the university and in Louisiana. An evening of music performed by the ULM School of Music faculty is on the schedule; all styles will be played in artistic collaboration.

In particular, one of Dr. Cofer's favorite pieces, "Lento e Largo," the Second Movement of Henryk Górecki's Symphony No. 3, and also titled the "Symphony of Sorrowful Songs," will be featured by the ULM Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Jason Rinehart with soprano soloist Claire Vangelisti.

Performing will be Richard Seiler, Coralie White, Deborah Guillory, and Sonia Hsu, pianists; Sandra Lunte, flute; Scot Humes, clarinet; Marilynn Gibson, trumpet; Micah Everett, trombone; James Boldin, horn; Christopher Thompson, violin; Mark McCleery, cello; Mel Mobley, percussion and composer; bassoonist David Gibson; conductor Jason Rinehart; singers Vangelisti and Matthew James, the new associate dean of Visual and Performing Arts. The ULM Chamber Orchestra will also play on the program.

This concert is free to the public. For more information, call 342-1414.

A reception for the music faculty, the Cofers, and the Friends of Music, a new music support organization, will follow the concert. To join the Friends of Music, or to seek information about the organization, call 342-3247. The reception is sponsored by The Community Trust Bank in Monroe.
